„Everything but the kitchen sink“

 

MEANING

Refers to everything someone might have even if it is not necessary.

TRANSLATION

absolut alles, was nicht niet- und nagelfest ist
(wörtlich: „alles, ausser der Küchenspüle“)

ORIGIN

This expression is ironic because of course you cannot use a kitchen sink for anything apart from washing and therefore it is not necessary. This expression comes from the 1940s.
