To have extremely good luck in life or a situation.

ORIGIN
This comes from the Ironic joke that Irish people are very lucky. But in fact throughout history Irish people have not been very lucky and experienced a lot of bad luck. For example the potato famine that caused a lot of potatoes to go bad starving the Irish people of their most popular food source.
